LOCAL ENFORCEMENT OF SPEED LIMIT ON STATE HIGHWAY

ARTICLE 1. AUTHORITY. This ordinance is adopted by the Town of Hyde Park under authority granted by 24 V.S.A. Chapter 59, 23 V.S.A. section 1007 and 13 V.S.A. section 7251.

ARTICLE 2. PURPOSE. The purpose of this ordinance is to promote public safety.

ARTICLE 3. SEVERABILITY. If any portion of this ordinance is held unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected.

ARTICLE 4. The maximum speed limit permitted for any vehicular traffic on Vermont Route 15 within the Town of Hyde Park shall be the same as those limits established and posted by the State of Vermont, to wit:

Vermont Route 15 East Bound

Johnson Town Line to 35 mph School Zone sign: .9 mi
35 mph School Zone sign to end of School Zone, marked by a 50 mph sign: .4 mi
50 mph sign to Reduced Speed sign: .1 mi
Reduced Speed sign to 40 mph sign: .1 mi
40 mph sign to end of 40 mph zone, marked by 50 mph sign: .5 mi
50 mph sign to Morrisville Town Line sign: .8 mi

Vermont Route 15 West Bound

Morrisville Town Line sign to Reduced Speed sign: .7 mi
Reduced Speed sign to 40 mph sign: .1 mi
40 mph sign to end of 40 mph zone, marked by 50 mph sign: .5 mi
50 mph sign to 35 mph School Zone sign: .2 mi
35 mph School Zone to end of School Zone, marked by 50 mph sign: .4 mi
50 mph sign to Johnson Town Line: .9 mi

The maximum speed limit permitted for any vehicular traffic on Vermont Route 100 within the Town of Hyde Park shall be the same as those limits established and posted by the State of Vermont, to wit:

Vermont Route 100 North Bound

VT RT 100 at VT RT 15 to Reduced Speed Zone sign near N. Hyde Park: 4.9 mi
Reduced Speed sign to 40 mph sign: .1 mi
40 mph sign to 35 mph sign: .2 mi
35 mph sign to end of 35 mph zone, marked by 50 mph sign: .7 mi
50 mph zone to Eden Town Line: .7 mi

Vermont Route 100 South Bound

Eden Town Line to Reduced Speed sign by N. Hyde Park Village: .5 mi
Reduced Speed sign to 35 mph sign: .2 mi
35 mph sign to 40 mph sign (south of intersection of VT 100C): .7 mi
40 mph sign to 50 mph sign: .2 mi
50 mph zone south to VT RT 15: 4.9 mi

ARTICLE 5. PENALTIES.

a. This is a civil ordinance which shall be enforced in accordance with the provisions in
24 V.S.A. sections 1974a and 1977 et seq.
b. The penalty for violation of any of the above speed limits shall be that set by the
Schedule of Fines established by the State of Vermont.

ARTICLE 6. ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS. Issuing officials shall include any officer from the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department or any certified Hyde Park constable.

ARTICLE 7. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall become effective 60 days after its adoption by the Hyde Park Selectboard. If a petition is filed under 24 V.S.A. section 1973, the taking effect of this ordinance shall be governed by that statute.
