Lamoille County Sheriff's Dept Budget 2010-2011
LAMOILLE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
2009 ANNUAL REPORT
In 2009, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center answered 7,866 9-1-1 calls for the county and during high call volume events throughout the state. This is an increase from 7,382 calls in 2008 and 5,336 calls in 2007. The Enhanced 9-1-1 Board has continued allocating $90,000 per year to the Communications Center in return for answering 9-1-1 calls from outside of the county when other 9-1-1 centers become too busy. When Lamoille’s dispatcher becomes overwhelmed other 9-1-1 centers provide us with call taking assistance.
In September, 2009 construction started for the relocation of the dispatch center from the first floor to the second floor. As of January the construction phase is 90% complete. We are also in the application process requesting approximately $400,000 to be used to purchase the first responder base radios needed to comply with the federal narrowband mandate.
The dispatch center’s calls for service in 2009 included:
2008 2009
Police service 10,028 13,869
(including LCSD, Morristown, Stowe Police & Hardwick Departments)
Rescue/Ambulance Service 2,409 2,859
Fire Service 924 901
Total Calls Dispatched 13,361 17,629
The towns of Hardwick and Greensboro are now being dispatched by the Sheriff’s Department with overwhelming support shown at each of the Town Meetings last March. E9-1-1 calls from those two communities are also handled by the Sheriff’s Department.
The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department’s Patrol division serving Hyde Park, Johnson and Wolcott responded to 3,734 calls for service in 2009, up from 3,457 in 2008. Staffing and morale are in good shape and all issues in Wolcott concerning the LCSD Patrol contract appear to be resolved. The department has contributed a detective to the Lamoille County State’s Attorney’s Office for a new Sexual Investigations Unit. This position is funded through a grant and is not reflected in the patrol budget. However, the detective investigates domestic violence and sexual assault cases for the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department patrol areas.
As always I wish to commend all of Lamoille County’s first responders for their hard work and dedication.
Respectfully,
Roger M. Marcoux Jr.
Lamoille County Sheriff
