2009 HYDE PARK SELECTBOARD REPORT

Our annual Hyde Park Town Meeting will once again be held in the auditorium of Lamoille Union High School. This year the municipal portion of the meeting will begin at 9AM with the Elementary School meeting to follow.  After listening to comments from last year’s meeting; the polls will also be located at Lamoille Union throughout the day.

As most of you know and hopefully have viewed, the top floor of the municipal office building has undergone extensive renovations this past fall. After discussing this for the past several years we determined the timing was right to begin the project.  These changes were required for ADA accessibility requirements, code requirements by the State Department of Labor and Industry, employee safety, as well as increased efficiencies of our staff.

We are asking in a warned article to continue renovations in both the exterior and ground floor of the building.  Renovations to the exterior shell would include replacement of the wood windows with triple glazed windows, removal and replacement of the exterior siding, as well as additional insulation of the building envelope. Other exterior work needed is removal and replacement of the cracked retaining wall on the right of the building, replacement of the exterior deck as well as the correction of drainage problems we are presently experiencing.

Interior renovations needed are code compliance updates to the ground floor walls and electrical systems, replacement of the flooring, updates to the heating and air systems as well as a new ceiling once that is done.

We are also asking to fund repairs to the foundation of the North Hyde Park Grange Hall.  This historic building is being used and maintained by the Hyde Park Historic Committee and in time will be a great attribute of this community.

Another article asks for funding for repairs to the Town clock located on the top of the County Courthouse. No one seems to know quite why this is a Town clock and not a County clock but history shows it thus.  Past Town reports show small sums of funds spent by the Town on repairs and maintenance of the clock.  Even our Town history book refers to the Town clock dating back to the early 1900’s.

Included in Sheriff Marcoux’s patrol budget this year is a new detective position.  Present staffing levels make it very difficult to properly follow up every complaint from  both our residents as well as the residents of Johnson and Wolcott.  With this new position both follow-up of these complaints as well as better communication back to our residents is expected.

Respectfully Submitted,
Scott Griswold, Chair
Russell Lanphear, Vice Chair
Duncan Nash
Allen Cusson
