HYDE PARK RECREATION FIELDS COMMITTEE 2009 ANNUAL REPORT
The Hyde Park Recreation Fields Committee is a group of citizens interested in fostering recreational activities and opportunities in Hyde Park. The group meets at 6:30 PM, the third Thursday of each month at the Municipal Office. The group focuses on project development, fundraising and grant writing.
On Saturday March 7, 2009, the Recreation Committee hosted a Family Fun Snowshoe Race at the Lamoille Union High School trails located on Cricket Hill Road. Over forty people participated including racers from around Vermont, as well as local residents and students. Awards were presented at the end of the event.
During the spring the Committee worked with the Selectboard on updating user fees and the installation of a gate lock. Mowing contractor Albert Goodell was hired to maintain trash receptacles due to continuing problems with conditions at the facility. On May 9th the 2009 Opening Day Celebration was held with a parade, music, food, games and fun activities for children. During Youth Season parent volunteers manned the concession stand raising monies for the support of the fields. The Committee and adult volunteers manned the concession stand during tournaments.
In addition to youth and adult baseball/softball teams, HPES soccer used the fields in 2009. Several ball tournaments were held at the facility over the season, including an annual kickball tournament to benefit local charities and the Tammy Brigham Memorial Wiffle Ball Tournament.
The new regulation-size Volleyball pit and a new segment of the walking path were opened in 2009. A storybook walk and exercise stations were installed along this path. HPES students with the assistance of Librarian Joyce Cormier voted on their choice of storybook for the walk, and ultimately chose the “Big Red Barn” by Margaret Wise Brown. New directional signs to the facility were also installed at Route 15 and also at McFarlane Road.
Committee meetings are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. New members welcome!

HYDE PARK BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION REPORT
The Hyde Park Baseball/Softball Association would like to request the sum of $1,000.00 from the Town of Hyde Park. The continued financial support from the Town assists in our youth program. The money helps the program purchase new uniforms, equipment and assist with maintaining the fields.
The 2009 season was very successful with over one hundred children ranging from age 5 to 13 participating. Every team enjoyed a great season with some players advancing on to All-Star play. This past season we celebrated the 4th season of play on the Hyde Park Recreation Fields. We were fortunate to purchase much needed uniforms for the minor and major league teams. We also purchased new bats for all nine teams due to new rules incorporated by the Little League Baseball Association.
We would like to thank the coaches who volunteer their time throughout the season: Nate Brigham for Major League Baseball; Jamie Dubie for Major League Softball; Kelly Picard and Troy Lowe for Minor League Baseball; Chris Dompierre and Tom Fuss for Rookie League; JJ Staples, Rich Grenier, Mag Sladyk Benoit and Carla Alexander for Tee Ball.
We would also like to thank the many parents who helped the coaches including those who worked in the Recreation Field concession stand. It takes many of us volunteers to make this program work, and we would like to graciously thank you for all of your efforts.
Thank you to the Town of Hyde Park for your assistance with the Hyde Park Baseball/Softball Association.
Treasurer, Heidi Kneeland
Vice-President, Jamie Dubie
