2009 ANNUAL REPORT
From January to May of 2009, the Planning Commission worked on updates and technical revisions to the Town Zoning Bylaws and Subdivision Regulations. In February, the Commission heard a presentation on concerns surrounding the Eden Asbestos Mine. In August, the Commission offered a letter of support to the Friends of Zack Woods Pond after determining their efforts to purchase property surrounding Zack Woods Pond through a federal Forest Legacy Program to be in compliance with the Town Plan. In November, the Commission was forced to surrender a $19,891 Recreation Trails Grant intended to fund construction of a trailhead facility because an appeal to an Act 250 determination regarding the proposed use of the former Lamoille Valley Rail Trail Corridor has ended up in Environmental Court and could take years to resolve. In December, the Commission began a comprehensive process to update the Town Plan. By statute, Town Plans are required to be reviewed every five years. Member Gerald Smith resigned in 2009 with his perfect attendance record in tact. The Selectboard appointed Kevin Fitzgerald to fill the vacancy on the Commission. The Commission would like to publicly recognize Mr. Smith’s valuable contribution to the community during his tenure.
