2011 HYDE PARK HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT
The goal of the Hyde Park Historical Society is not only to record and preserve the history of our town, but to share it, especially with our young folks. When the Grange disbanded, the building was to revert back to the Town of Hyde Park for community use. The building belongs to the Town of Hyde Park and not to the Society. During the past few years, the Historical Society has been able to make a number of improvements, including replacing the crumbling front foundation wall with a new concrete wall, repaired and replaced the front porch and replaced the old dilapidated front doors with doors of a like design.
Our activities this summer included an Open House on August 19, 2011 followed by a program “Vermont History through Song” presented by Linda Radtke.
The annual Old Timers’ Day was held Sunday, September 11, 2011 with over 100 people attending. The Society provided hot dogs, chips, cookies, water and soda. We made $150 on the food concessions and the musicians collected $500. All $650 was donated this year to the flood victims in Waterbury. We will hold Old Timers’ Day on September 16, 2012.
Mike Patch donated a metal fire escape to us. It needed sandblasting, welding and painting. Bill Burritt has donated the sandblasting and painting for us. We have now moved the fire escape into the Grange Hall and will weld and install it in the spring. Rev. and Mrs. John Nutting made a generous donation towards the fire escape.
We are participating in the Community Collaborative Group. We had a “What Is It?” table at the Elementary School Open House.
We are working with the Selectboard on a policy for renting the Grange Hall.
The Hyde Park Historical Society held six meetings this year. Our long term Treasurer, Gary Anderson, resigned. We elected Kim Moulton to replace him. We will hold our first annual meeting on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the home of Robert and Carolyn Jones. At that time, we will have an election of officers. If you are interested in a tour of the Grange Hall, please contact Harold Bailey at 888-2811.
REQUEST FOR FUNDS AT TOWN MEETING
The Hyde Park Historical Society is planning to upgrade the larger bathroom to make it handicap accessible, repair the upstairs front porch and complete the fire escape project this year. We have a small amount of money in our account but will need $14,000 to complete these projects. The fire escape and upstairs front porch are safety issues. The renovation of the bathroom to make it handicap accessible will help us in our effort to rent the hall out for future events.
Present Officers:
